Yes, panic is gone, listing of directory is works. 
File is inaccessible (i guess that encoding problems). 8.3 filenames can use
non-english encodings (usually non-dos (for example - not cp866 but cp1251 in
russian locale)).

$ls /media/da0s1/Superlongname/
‘…ђѓ…‰~1.MP3
