Intel MatrixRAID hasn't worked well on FreeBSD for quite some time.

Be aware there is, in RELENG_8 and newer, better support for this using
the graid(8) utility. I have been meaning to test this for months now,
but haven't had the time.
You'd probably be better off scrapping use of the built-in Intel stuff
and going with gmirror(8).
