8.1-RELEASE ZFS hangs

If you get rid of hptiop(4) (meaning move the disks to the on-board
controller, which presumably has 4 or 6 ports on it?), does the
situation improve?

I realise this isn't an effective long-term solution, but it would help
rule out hptiop(4) being the source of the problem.
