Nevar, please: 

1. in the guest

2. pkg upgrade virtualbox-ose-additions

3. stop

4. set the guest to use VBoxSVGA

5. _ignore_ the warning – do _not_ set it to VMSVGA

6. start the guest.

Is the issue reproducible?
