Unable to create virtual machines under FreeBSD's VirtualBox

I ran into something similar and found relief when I changed storage
controllers to IDE. I do not know why this broke or why it worked but
it affected multiple OS's (linux, windows, etc) and the only VM that I
found working was an old one setup this way. Changing my VM's to that
fixed it for me. YMMV
