virtualbox regression: broken usb devices passthrough

After upgrading VBOX from 4.3.12_2. to 4.3.16 USB passthrough not working 
anymore, log message:

Failed to attach the USB device JetFlash Mass Storage Device to the virtual 
machine VMNAME.

Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error: VERR_READ_ERROR).

Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
