What type of NIC have you allocated to your VMs?  I believe that the
extension pack is required to get bootcode for the emulated intel
NICs, without which you can't PXE.  VirtualBox can also emulate some
PCNet (IIRC) NICs that do have bootcode built into VirtualBox itself,
so make sure that you're using those.
