Yeah, but the instructions at the end looked like some special case, while in fact
it doesn't seem possible to do a proper upgrade without them.

Yes, I ended up following this example.
However I must say that some ports are a pain to re-install (e.g.
HeroesOfMightAndMagic), especially when technically don't need to be reinstalled.
