"see bsd.port.mk" could/should also accompanied by something like this:
To retrieve the current/actual value run 'make -DUSE_LINUX -V
LINUX_BASE_PORT' inside /usr/ports"

NB: This doesn't work right now, it only works inside a linux-port like
print/acroread7 for example. I'm not sure where the problem is, but I
find using make(1) to retrieve the value more user friendly than using
grep(1). YMMV.

Which is worse: ignorance or apathy?
Don't know. Don't care.
