Adding a section about make delete-old to the handbook

Hello doc-list,

I'm currently (read: finally) in the process of finishing up the
following PR, which would add a section to the handbook about using make
delete-old:

I have a patch ready, but before I commit it (next weekend), I want to
ask for some feedback. The patch can be found here, along with how it

Thanks to gabor@, who already gave me some feedback about extending the
original patch with a bit more text explaining why this is necessary.
