  I saw your commit of 99870c70bac7 (loader: rewrite vidc_install_font),
31c2bcad7e44 (loader: remove left over call to unsetenv()), and belatedly
babda0952f8355a89b3241d5e8943c7da0fa4f6b (hw.vga.textmode -> screen.textmode).

  Didn't fix the blank screen, and I thought the hw.vga.textmode workaround
had broken until I read that commit fully (will try it next reboot).

  At main-c255633-g3efe9b3e77c3 right now (also past your f1829643c476.
