  Ah, this is part of the "Terminal colours in current" thread?  I saw that,
but didn't correlate it with default black-on-black text.  It looked like
more of a graphics-mode glitch (blank screen, backlit, signal) initially, I'd
just not seen something like that bite me at the bootloader stage before.
