Can't NFS mount ZFS volume

I have no idea why but using ..

sudo /sbin/mount vm01:/usr/local/exports/ /mnt

  .. instead of ..

sudo /sbin/mount -t nfs vm01:/usr/local/exports/ /mnt

  .. works; sorry for the noise,
