I spoke a little too soon, I could not connect to a remote host until I did some pings, eg..
maarsy-acq:~>telnet -NK6 ipv6.google.com 80
Trying 2404:6800:8004::68...
^C
maarsy-acq:~>ping6 metatron

--- metatron.gsoft.com.au ping6 statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 0.247/0.377/0.507/0.130 ms

maarsy-acq:~>telnet -NK6 ipv6.google.com 80
Trying 2404:6800:8004::68...
Connected to ipv6.l.google.com.
Escape character is '^]'.

telnet> q

This is repeatable after a reboot, I haven't experienced with FreeBSD 8.x.
