Updating FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE i386 to 7.2 amd64?

You will have to recompile all ports (/usr/local ) and any manually installed apps due
to the changes in the system libs. Personally, it's not worth the
headache of trying to do a "upgrade" across architectures like this.

Most of the items in /usr (outside of /usr/local) are part of the
base system and should update "okay", but I don't know if you will
be able to boot a x64 kernel into a x86 system, assuming you try a
reboot between make installkernel and make installworld .

I don't think a binary upgrade would work at all, but I've never
actually done a binary upgrade. I always csup.

On that note, I've never tried this, but I would recommend against it.
