You could probably say that about lots of base features.  Julian has
confirmed that it can be compiled out so I don't see this as a problem.

Hence this thread.  Anyone who is likely to be affected is supposed to be
reading this mailing list.  It's not clear what else Julian should do to
warn/inform people.

The alternative is to put the code in CVS.  And from what I've read in
this thread, the code sounds like it's ready.  (Though making a patch
set generally available in the interim would probably be useful).
