I'm pretty sure that the base system installed in /usr is not intended to 
be altered by the admins, and should never need to be. Just like the 
things such as the GENERIC kernel config files, the /etc/rc* scripts, 
/etc/defaults and other files in /usr/share/examples.

You've been using FreeBSD for over a decade and you just now ran into this 
problem?
