one last question (sorry to use up so much of everyone's time) - are there
instructions for applying the patch? i have not found anything
definitive online

i understand i must have a source tree checked out which i must
rebuild with the hal patches, but i am unsure of the interim
steps. otherwise i am comfortable with the process of rebuilding freebsd.
