FWIW: I am running i386-CURRENT as of March 17 11:27 EDT with acpica
megapatch + acpi_ec.c patch by Mr. YAMAMOTO to enable ThinkPad buttons
and I see no regression on HDA. Mine is:

pcm0: <Intel 82801G High Definition Audio Controller> mem
0xee240000-0xee243fff irq 17 at device 27.0 on pci0
pcm0: [ITHREAD]
pcm0: <HDA Codec: Analog Device AD1981HD>
pcm0: <HDA Driver Revision: 20070317_0042>

I am loading snd_hda as module.
