No.

I'd assumed it was a soft updates thing anyway just from the error
message, but I did accidentally leave off the -U when I copied my
manual steps into the script and ran it once or twice before noticing,
and it didn't give any troubles (though I _did_ wonder why it took so
much longer  ;).
