Maybe I do not understand what he is trying to do, but it looks like
it's easy.

Use the -i option in the csup command line (not in the supfile) and
specify:
csup -L2 -i src/sys/dev/ath SUPFILE

And you probably should use csup(1) from the base system instead if
cvsup from ports.
