Hi,
I had the same problem, it seems to be related to
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2006-January/059782.html.
Disable DMA on your CD/DVD drives, and it will work much better ;-)
/boot/loader.conf -> hw.ata.atapi_dma=0
But I hope this will be fixed in the future...
