You might try 4.x for fun.

Looks like the device went away or the driver is looking in the wrong
place for the status information...

Onboard or PCI cards?

And you honestly want to do freebsd dev on a 166MHz machine? Even my
parents gave up on theirs, and it was running Windows :)
