Virtual Memory Exhausted in compilation GNOME2

Those md devices aren't swap-backed, are they? :) How much physical
RAM do you have? I just did a test build of gucharmap on my 5.4
machine and compiling gucharmap-unicode-info.c took ~80MB of memory
according to top.
