This is strange. It works here. I can enter 'vidcontrol 132x60' and it
switches to that mode.

I just installed mutt and have it running under 1600x1200x16 (MODE_286
on my machine). Looks okay here.
I've had other people reporting problems that I could not reproduce here
with my Matrox Millenium G200 and two nVIDIAs. I also have some issues
myself that others don't have.

The mouse pointer is drawn the same way as the text. If there's text,
there should be a mouse pointer. Is it completely invisible? Could you
check if commenting out the lines
