ppp related panic

   Perhaps the subject was misleading. The panic is triggered by using
   ppp, it may be related to other parts of the code, it could even be
   related to the recent heavy tty brushing :)

   I have a core available to whoever needs it, plus i indicated an easy
   way to reproduce it
