seems to me that glarance's suggestion of conditionals is
simpler, more reliable, and does not quadruple kernel
compile time.

if you have to edit /etc/make.conf to choose which modules
to compile, you're back at the equivalent of editing the
kernel conf file.  if you compile them all, the kernel takes
four or five times longer to make.  neither is a pretty
place to be.
