we've been here before, same symptom maybe three months ago.
sos will fix.

in the meantime, boot old kernel, which you seem to have done.

does to me, i have a removable cd rom :-)

workaround is remove 'sysctl -a;' from
  /etc/rc.d/preseedrandom
  /etc/rc.d/initrandom
