It looks like /R/stage/trees/compat1x/usr/lib/compat/aout wasn't
created for some reason.  It should have been created as part of
making the release.1 target that runs mtree(8) commands for all
distributions in ${DISTRIBUTIONS}, including "compat1x".  Do you
have a gzipped full log of "make release" available somewhere?
