IMHO, 'free memory' is not a particularly useful measure on any
modern Un*x.  As long as you're above the "serious memory shortage"
level (a few MB), the actual number is not particularly useful.

Of more interest would be how the kernel is actually using memory.
This is reported by things like 'systat -v', 'netstat -m' and 'vmstat -m'.
