Hacking the BIOS to get my floppy back?

Hi all,
Any pointers would be welcome. I have a box running 5.2.1RC in the workshop
which has the old AMI ACPI and floppy problem. If I boot with ACPI disabled I
get floppy drive. If I boot with ACPI enabled I get no floppy and the usual
fdc0: command failed at out byte 1 of 3 message in dmesg.
I know this is a BIOS problem and have emailed ASRock, who directed my to the
Linux section of ViaArena. Idiots. I have sent them a lovely little missive
explaining the difference and the problem again, but I fear it will be too
much for them. I guess they just throw the BIOS together with the AMI tool,
adding stock modules and really know not what goes on... ;o)
My question is this: How does one go about hacking the ACPI in the BIOS? Is
there a way to do it? It seems a stupid thing for such a trivial problem,
assigning six ports to an ISA device, but any suggestions would be welcome.
Booting without ACPI or APIC is not an option. I have too many devices
installed in that machine for the resources available without ACPI.
Chances of me buying anything with an AMI BIOS again? Slim!
