I am having a similiar problem with:

acd0: <_NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A/1.05> DVDR drive at ata1 as master
acd1: <Memorex 52MAXX 2452AJ/6WS3> CDRW drive at ata1 as slave

on an ASUS A7V333-X with 5.3-BETA1 hanging at that point too.
After waiting a few minutes I found that booting in verbose mode
works without a problem.  Verbose dmesg:
