4.9 stability update

Please ignore this problem and sorry for replying without checking
the mailing list.  (It was a newly built system with a newly updated
CVS repository, but someone forgot the 'cvs update' in between).  I
do have some problems with 4.9 but I'm discussing that in -stable.
