Also look for PTHREAD_{LIBS/CFLAGS} in your ports configure script.  Then
all you need to do is set CONFIGURE_ENV in the ports Makefile:

    CONFIGURE_ENV+= PTHREAD_LIBS=${PTHREAD_LIBS} \
                    PTHREAD_CFLAGS=${PTHREAD_CFLAGS}

That's how I fixed the security/amavisd port in my ports tree.
