PAE related crash

Hi!
I've just installed 5.1-RELEASE (updated to -current) on a
Dual Opteron 1.4 with 6GB memory installed (MSI K8D Master-F).
Without 'options PAE' the system works fine (beside the 'missing' 2GB).
Enabling PAE in a custom kernel (device acpi, options SMP, options APIC_IO
and makeoptions NO_MODULES=yes) leads to a crash on boot before
printing the amount of memory (sorry no tip output). When disabling
acpi it displays the 6140MB but fails to pass
"Programming 4 pins in IOAPIC #2".
The PAE-GENERIC kernel loads and then immediately reboots before
printing one line.
Any hints?
