clock runs twice as fast

I have an Asus P5A with a k6-2 400, and the clock runs twice as fast as it should.  I can set
machdep.acpi_timer_freq=7159090 to fix it, but maybe there is a correct way of fixing it?  Is
something in acpi not getting detected correctly?
