groups wrong on NIS clients

Do you have an nsswitch.conf?   If so, what are the contents?

What is the output of `id -G' on both systems?

What is the output of (single line):

id -G | perl -e 'foreach (split(/\s+/, <>)) { print $_ .  "\t" . join(":", getgrgid($_), "\n"); }'
