Hey thanks for the feedback guys :-)
It turns out the problem was stale headers...and libs I think.
I just nuked /usr/include/g++/ and /usr/lib/ before and installworld. Of
course this caused problems with make installworld but which were easily
solved with a few make installs in some /usr/src/ directories.
