Chrome/chromium build environment and google hangout

I want to build webrtc on FreeBSD and notice that the requirement is to add
the depot tools to the environment path.
With both /bin/sh and /bin/csh, I have used
PATH=$PATH:/$HOME/location_of_depot_tools with negative results.
1. Where am I wrong in the exporting procedure?
2. Does the build require BASH such as in GNU BASH or just the bash korn
shell?
