That isn't possible if you need to run 32bit (i386).
Depending on the board, only 3 to 3.5 GByte will be
usable, the rest is used by PCI configuration space.

If you need more RAM, you must run 64bit (amd64),
and make sure that you don't depend on software that
isn't 64bit-clean.

Another possibility is to enable PAE, but that's
an ugly crutch with its own class of problems.
I recommend to avoid PAE for production systems
if possible.
