Might be the e820 or EFI metadata is somewhat erroneous?  Just speculating at
this point.  phys_segs should help.

@Rafael, bootverbose mode should print out the BIOS or EFI metadata we use for
understanding physical memory layout before the panic.  12.1 may print the same
information, but I'm not sure.  And thanks for the report, and your help
investigating!
