make -C release MK_AUTO_OBJ=no -V BRANCH gives me 
"PRERELEASE"

The EXTRA_VERSION timestamp suffix is appended to package names when we are on
a BRANCH which iS STABLE or CURRENT or ALPHA. 

There is the bug :)
