This is still a problem on:

FreeBSD fooname 11.1-STABLE FreeBSD 11.1-STABLE #0 r322788: Tue Aug 22 15:32:10
UTC 2017     root at releng2.nyi.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC  amd64

MBR, 2 zfs partions as installed by default ZFS MBR setup on 11.1 stable
snapshot.

$ gpart show ada0
=>       63  488390562  ada0  MBR  (233G)
         63          1        - free -  (512B)
         64  488390560     1  freebsd  [active]  (233G)
  488390624          1        - free -  (512B)

$ gpart show ada0s1
