FreeBSD rstark.munix.us 10.0-RC4 FreeBSD 10.0-RC4 #0 r260130: Tue Dec 31 17:10:01 UTC 2013 root at snap.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64
>Description:
When attempting to install FreeBSD 10.0-RC4 -or- 10.0-RC5 from cd disc1, the resulting system does not boot up after installation on an asus h87m-e motherboard.
I used multiple sata hard disks. a WD sata2 1TB & a Seagate sata3 3TB drive. I tried normal install options using 'whole disk' guided partitioning, as well as ZFS single disk installs using MBR & GPT options.
Any/every install option has been tested good by inserting the hard disk into an older machine and successfully booting the OS.
A fresh install using a 9.2-RELEASE cd dic1 will boot fine on the asus h87m-e, however the onboard ethernet is not recognized at boot.
>How-To-Repeat:
install a fresh copy of 10.0-RC5 on an asus h87m-e motherboard, and try to boot up system disk.
>Fix:
the work around I used was to install 9.2-RELEASE, add a usb ethernet adaptor, and then use freebsd-update to update system to 10.0-RC5 successfully.
