According to http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/i-o-controller-hub-7=
-datasheet.html
if i understand the documentation and ata-intel.c right,
this is a bug programmed into ata-intel.c.
cause of:
This document is intended for Original Equipment Manufacturers and BIOS ven=
dors
creating Intel=AE I/O Controller Hub 7 (ICH7) Family based products.
This document is
the datasheet for the following:
=95 Intel=AE 82801GB ICH7 (ICH7)
=95 Intel=AE 82801GR ICH7 RAID (ICH7R)
=95 Intel=AE 82801GDH ICH7 Digital Home (ICH7DH)
=95 Intel=AE 82801GBM ICH7 Mobile (ICH7-M)
=95 Intel=AE 82801GHM ICH7 Mobile Digital Home (ICH7-M DH)
=95 Intel=AE 82801GU ICH7-U Ultra Mobile (ICH7-U)
Note: Throughout this datasheet, the terms =93Desktop=94, =93Digital Home=
=94
=93Mobile=94, and =93Ultra
Mobile=94 refer to the following components, unless specifically
noted otherwise:
=95 Desktop refers to the 82801GB ICH7, 82801GR ICH7R, and 82801GDH =
ICH7DH.
=95 Digital Home refers to the 82801GDH ICH7DH and 82801GHM ICH7-M D=
H.
=95 Mobile refers to the 82801GBM ICH7-M, and 82801GHM ICH7-M DH.
=95 Ultra Mobile refers to the 82801GU ICH7-U.
AHCI (Intel=AE ICH7R, ICH7DH, and Mobile Only)
The ICH7 provides hardware support for Advanced Host Controller
Interface (AHCI), a
new programming interface for SATA host controllers. Platforms
supporting AHCI may
take advantage of performance features such as no master/slave
designation for SATA
devices=97each device is treated as a master=97and hardware-assisted native=
command
queuing. AHCI also provides usability enhancements such as Hot-Plug (Deskto=
p and
Mobile Only). AHCI requires appropriate software support (e.g., an
AHCI driver) and for
some features, hardware support in the SATA device or additional
platform hardware.
<<< 82801GB no AHCI capability there?????
Not all ICH7 Chipsets are capable of doing AHCI.
I am not sure if the chip reported ID's are right translated in
ata-intel.c oder pci devices.
