Because the superuser requirement isn't properly tested today, one can clog up a production filesystem with garbage (example: mkfifo/11.t).

I discovered over 5 million fifos in my UFS-based scratch directory prior to a backup and reinstall, because mdconfig / mount / umount operation [in general] requires superuser privileges, whereas mkfifo doesn't.
