I recently upgraded my 8.0-STABLE (Feb 2010) box (with ATI Radeon 4850 card) to 8.1-RC2 and also upgraded my xorg to 7.5, WITHOUT_NOUVEAU=yes. Now it seems that I can startx fine once, but when I start it the second time, even if I disable DRI, I get an instant reboot. I can post Xorg.0.log and/or kernel messages if you want. I've tried so many different configs at this point, I'm not sure which log from which config you would want. Check http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?p=91166 for previous discussion.
