 This is no longer an issue in 8:

 09:56:55 UTC 2009     root at new-host:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC  amd64
 [smcafee at xxxx ~]$ sudo ipmitool sdr list
 Temp             | 42 degrees C      | ok
 Not sure about 7 and can't test it, but I wouldn't object to this being 
 closed now as "won't fix" in any remaining affected branches.
