>Description:
After installing kde4 (having had to pkg_add -r a few dependencies such as
kdebase4-runtime because I kept getting a compiler segmentation fault when
attempting to build it), when attempting to use the kde4 kdm, I get an
error that states "[kdm-bin] Cannot create lock/pid file
/var/run/kdm.pid". kdm never launches. When I use xinit after logging
into my box, kde4 launches, and I have to admit it's very pretty :) I'm
pretty new to FreeBSD, I've looked around to see if anyone else has
experienced/found a fix for this problem and have seen this problem has
also appeared somewhere in Russia on 7.0. Release, but the fix hasn't been
found. Just wondering if there's some BSD guru out there who can help me
get kdm to launch.

>How-To-Repeat:
login as root
cd /usr/ports/x11/kde4
if not already root user, su to root or sudo
make install clean
[if necessary pkg_add -r
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/packages/x11/kdebase-runtime-4.1.1.tbz
and after that make install clean]
after installcompletes, edit /etc/ttys to include
ttyv8 "/usr/local/kde4/bin/kdm -nodaemon" xterm on secure
save your changes on /etc/ttys
reboot
and when the system comes back up, this is where I get the error.....
