Dear Richard,

Apparently this PR has languished for a long time, and we apologize for that!
This sounds like a serial port issue, possibly with FreeBSD, but likely
fairly specific to your hardware as it's not being seen on a lot of other
hardware.  Would it be possible for you to re-test this with a more recent
version of FreeBSD, such as 6.3 or 7.0, on the same hardware and let us know
if the problem persists?
